Iran’s Islamic Azad University Researchers Develop New Organic Insecticide

TEHRAN (ANA)- The participant at Asreh Omid Exhibition held by Islamic Azad University event announced the production of natural pesticides against pests to save different agricultural products.

“NarvanNoghreyeeDarak Company through the efforts of its experts and after conducting years of research, has been able to achieve formulations containing natural compounds,” managing director of NarvanNoghreyeeDarak Company Mohsen Radi said in an interview with ANA correspondent on the sidelines of AsrehOmid exhibition.

Radi underlined that as his company’s insecticide is natural and organic, it does not cause any harms to farmers and orchardists that use it.

“Currently, the types of poisons that are available in the market are completely dangerous for human health,” he said adding that if the farmers use the chemical insecticide their own health and also people who use their products will be put at risk.

The researcher added that their product can be used against a variety of pests.

“This product is completely competitive because it is reasonably priced as compared to the poisons,” Radi said adding that the poisons that are out for sale are dangerous for health and because of them some of the exported crops from Iran have been returned by the destinations countries so far. “The poisons produced by this company can be a good substitute for many poisons in the market,” he added.

Appreciating the support of Islamic Azad University, he said, "By attending the AsrehOmid Event, I intend to showcase the capabilities of the company and attract investors.”

Radi said DarakCompany has also created another formula based on organic compounds after years of research that can be used to disinfect vegetables.

“Currently, most of the disinfectants available in the market are made of chlorine chemical compounds such as sodium hypochlorite or benzalkonium chloride. Hypochlorite in contact with organic substances produces dangerous compounds such as chlorine gas and various carcinogenic compounds (such as trihalomethane). Breathing chlorine vapors also causes skin allergies and respiratory problems,” the researcher added.

“Our product is made of natural plant compounds. It disinfects vegetables without causing any problems for consumers. Its remnants in the vegetables will not pose any health risks as it is based on organic compounds,” he added.

The national Asreh Omid Event was held in late May in Tehran’s Grand Mosalla with the participation of 3,000 knowledge-based companies, laboratories, research teams and startups.
