The imports during the same time period contracted by 16 percent, with an overall decrease of 39 percent in the trade deficit as compared to the same period in the previous fiscal year, the ministry said in a statement.

The exports in January 2024 increased by 26.9 percent compared with the same month last year, said the statement, adding that the imports witnessed a fall by 4.5 percent year-on-year.

The positive trend in Pakistan's global trade shows that the country is steadily expanding its international trade footprint, Pakistani caretaker Minister for Commerce Gohar Ejaz was quoted as saying in the statement.

"These positive trends reflect the government's unwavering commitment to promoting trade and economic growth," he added.
