Iranian Researchers Offer New Method to Treat Alzheimer with Chewing Gum, Sweets

TEHRAN (ANA)- Researchers at Iranian Ferdowsi University of Mashhad have produced a medicine in the form of sweets and chewing gum to treat Alzheimer's that is very comfortable for the elderly to take and it helps to prevent the disease.

Ferdowsi University of Mashhad is one of the prominent universities in producing pharmaceuticals medicines and is home to many researchers in the medical field.

Maria Beihaghi is the managing director of Ferdowsi Technology Nanobiosis Company, which is one of the companies located at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad's growth center, said in an interview that their company is made up of university faculty members and specialists in the fields of biotechnology, drug chemistry, immunology, allergy, clinical and medical biochemistry.

She said that the researchers at their company started work on biotechnological products, cosmetics, production of diagnostic kits, and also providing specialized services in the field of molecular genetics, genomics and bioinformatics 2021.

“We have been able to produce a medicine in the form of sweets for the elderly and people with Alzheimer because it is easier to take,” Beihaghi said

“This drug can help prevent Alzheimer's disease and it acts as a remedy for it,” she also said while noting that the medicine plays a greater role in preventing the disease than treating it.

The researcher further noted that taking the medicine needs to take some time, adding, “For example, it should be sucked by the person for 5 minutes so that the desired substances are well absorbed by the body. This drug was completely effective in the clinical phase and we intend to begin its mass production it in the future.”
