The alloy containing nickel (Ni) and titanium (Ti) is used especially for endodontic instruments.

NiTi alloys offer major advantages over conventional stainless steel endodontic files due to properties such as flexibility, elasticity, and improved resistance to cyclic fatigue.

“We have succeeded in making a nickel-titanium alloy with compositions close to 50-50 percent by weight,” Ali Heidarnia, an expert with the company, said.

He made the remarks on the sidelines of the 12th International Innovation and Technology Exhibition (INOTEX) that was held at Pardis Technology Park from May 9 to 12.

This intermetallic alloy has memory effects and superelastic properties. Another important property of the alloy in question is that it returns to its original form when heated to a certain temperature, he explained.

One of the important applications of this alloy is orthodontic wires in dentistry, which has many advantages compared to other orthodontic wires, Heidarnia noted.

“This alloy is made of stainless steel and titanium alloys, and in order to prevent the entry and control of pollution such as oxygen, hydrogen, nitrogen, and carbon in the standard level, special controls must be carried out in the equipment and melting process.”

The INOTEX expo aimed to introduce products, facilitate partnerships and provide various insights on the latest global competitive prices, quality standards, developments, scientific findings, and economic-technological ideas.

The four-day event gathered a large number of Iranian and foreign business people, technologists, industrialists, university students, professors, and researchers and hosted almost 450 companies.
