“By producing 9,000 tons of different types of catalysts for the steel, petrochemical and oil refining industries, we were able to meet the needs of domestic industries in addition to exporting the first steel catalyst to a neighboring country this year,” said Mohammad Amin Ebrahimi, the deputy head of the sales engineering department of the company.

“Also, our exported catalysts are currently being used in reactors and reformers of steel, petrochemical and refinery complexes in three other world states,” he added.

Ebrahimi noted that at present, Iran ranks 10th in the world in steel production and first in production of sponge iron by the direct iron recovery method, adding that access to the catalysts is highly vital in improvement of the efficiency and productivity of sponge iron production.

“Over 65% of the country's sponge iron is produced by using the catalysts made in our company,” he said.

Sponge iron is formed through the reduction of iron ore to metallic iron through reaction with carbon in the form of coal, etc. at approximately 1100 degree Celsius.

Sponge iron is also referred to as direct reduced iron, metalized iron, or hot briquetted iron.
