“The ultrasonic water meters are used to monitor the amount of water consumed at houses,” said Amir Hossein Kimiayee Assadi, the manager of the technological company stationed at the Science and Technology Park of Hamedan province in Western Iran.

He added that the advantage of these ultrasonic meters over mechanical meters is their high measurement accuracy, and stated, “These meters also enjoy low depreciation and since they are equipped with IOT (Internet of Things) technology, they can communicate with the user through the cellphone software.”

“These meters are capable of providing data to the user on the daily, monthly and yearly consumption of water in the house,” Kimiayee Assadi said.

He noted that the meter provides the possibility of establishing two-way contacts between the regional and provincial water departments and the users, paving the ground for fining the customers whose water consumption is outside the standard patterns.

In a relevant development, an Iranian knowledge-based company designed and manufactured a smart water meter to save water, despite the harsh US sanctions imposed on the country’s technology sector.

“Energy saving is the main pillar of economic development and sustainability while facing the global energy crises,” Majid Mohammadi, the managing-director of Iran’s Innovation and Smartization Center, told ANA.

“In line with indigenization of the products and equipment used in the country, specially in the field of water saving, the smart mechanical water meters have been produced by the Iranian researchers via using internal capacities,” he added.

“The product which enjoys remote reading capability can in the meantime show automatically volumetric consumption and costs as well as the customer’s consumption information for the past ten years. To do so, an optical port with the battery life warranty of five years has been utilized,” the official added.

Mohammadi said that the water meter is capable of warning water leakage and remotely turning on and off water from the tap, noting that the device has been manufactured under the harshest US sanctions against Iran and has been approved by the Energy Ministry of Iran.

“The smart meter automatically alarms the customers to manage their consumption to prevent freshwater waste and can also concurrently alerts them of the high amount of consumption and costs,” he added.
